Omer Gilony

Not many people can say they opened their own successful business at the tender age of 16, but Omer Gilony can. The Tel Aviv native, now 23, realised her skill for floral design after creating displays for her friend’s 15th birthday party. “They suddenly became so popular,” she tells BEA studio, “that other school mates wanted to buy my creations for other parties. It led me to open my business one year later, and it still operates back home in Tel Aviv. We create flower crowns, gift baskets, bouquets, arrangements, installations and table centre pieces.”

These days, you´ll find Omer in Lisbon, studying global design and freelancing as a table set designer for various editorials throughout the capital city. Indeed, the beautiful entrepreneur doesn’t just know her bougainvillea from her begonia, she boasts an in-depth knowledge of art history too. That’s where her own design style comes from. “I love the extravagant, over-detailed beauty of old times,” she explains. “I look to the Renaissance, Baroque, and Romanticism periods for inspiration. My style is romantic. It’s messy organisation that spills out of the vase.”

In her down time, you´ll find Omer perusing the flea markets of Lisbon, on the hunt for unique tableware, glasses and various set design props. Her innate creativity and passion for all things beautiful is what we love, and we can’t help but feel inspired by her drive and ambition.

One thing we’ll always find in your beach bag?

Well, if my beach bag is not an entire picnic basket full of wine and fruits, then just a nice beach blanket to lay on the sand with.

Summer book?

A Portuguese language course book – haha; I highly recommend it!

Your ultimate summer style icon?

Currently obsessed with Sofia Lauren 50’s and Italian summer.

The song that reminds you of summer?

An Israeli singer, called Arik Einsteins. His song “Adon Shoko” reminds me of warm Saturdays and my parents!

Favourite flower?

Well, its hard to choose just one as I really love so many, but If I really have to, it would probably be carnations. They are beautiful to me. They aren’t considered expensive, yet they are still special, playful and sexy!
